New Plans for Old Convention Center

MAY 10, 2006 -- Plans are moving forward to turn the Coastline Convention Center in Wilmington into part of a hotel.

The historic building on the Riverfront is still available for meetings and weddings until this fall. Owner Charles Carver says it will then close and undergo a renovation.

Eventually, what is now meeting space will be part of a hotel lobby and restaurant. Carver plans to add that space to his current Best Western Coastline Inn and will call the new property the Sheraton Riverside. It will adjoin the city's new convention center if that project becomes a reality.
