MAY 1, 2006 -- The New Hanover County Board of Education is one step closer to finalizing redistricting plans for the 2007 school year.
They say the three year-round schools will stay the way they are right now. The board went into the meeting with six different options. As of now, with the year-round schools out of the mix, only a few options are left on the table.
One option is to keep the district essentially the way it is with thousands of children boarding buses in order to keep schools diverse. Another option is to return the district to largely neighborhood schools with children going to the school closest to their home. They say parents can be more involved this way.
They plan to hold three public forums later in May.
