Columbus Co. Humane Society Says Animal Shelter is Breaking State Laws

APRIL 28, 2006 -- The Columbus County Humane Society and animal shelter are at odds again.

The Humane Society thinks the shelter is putting dogs to sleep too quickly. They also think the shelter is breaking other state laws.

The Humane Society says the shelter has a home-made gas chamber they use to euthanize dogs every Friday. They say the state law requires that the chamber is approved by certain animal organizations. The Humane Society says the chamber has not been approved by those organizations.

Shelter officials insist they're following the rules.

The Humane Society has offered their assistance to help save the animals.
