Erosion Becoming a Problem on North Topsail Beach

APRIL 28, 2006 -- Strong thunderstorms brought heavy rains to the area causing problems on the north end of Topsail Beach.

The rainy weather led to heavy erosion, near the same area where eight homes were recently condemned due to damage from Hurricane Ophelia. The new damage threatens nine other duplexes.

Town officials are considering emergency steps, which could include sandbagging or emergency sand-pushing.

Representatives with the State Division of Coastal Management are supposed to assess the situation.
