Students Learn to be Prepared for Hurricanes

APRIL 27, 2006 -- Children at local elementary schools are learning why, especially around here, you have to be prepared for anything.  The schools are hosting programs on hurricane preparedness.

Thursday's location was Codington School in Wilmington. National Weather Service Meteorologist Steve Keebler explained the difference between a hurricane and a tropical storm. Then, a group of actors from the New Hanover County Senior Center put on a skit to bring the lessons home.

The children learned the ingredients in a disaster kit and they learned to always have a place to go if an evacuation is ordered.
