APRIL 20, 2006 -- A long-awaited bridge is finally open in Wilmington. Traffic is now rolling over the Fifth Avenue bridge. Thursday, contractors were working to lay down straw and make other repairs to make the area around the bridge more accessible. The new bridge replaces an aging structure that took traffic over railroad tracks and connected two neighborhoods. The new bridge should help traffic move through the Northern end of Downtown Wilmington, an area undergoing rapid growth and change.
