City Planner Charged with Exposing Himself

APRIL 13, 2006 -- A Craven County city planner is charged with exposing himself in a Wilmington jewelry store.  Thirty-seven year old Gary Garner was the city planner for Havelock. While visiting Wilmington in early January, Garner is accused of exposing himself to a clerk at S. Burke Jewelers and Bridal on Eastwood Road.

Garner was supposed to make a first appearance in court Thursday, but due to miscommunication, the court date was postponed.  The woman Garner is charged with showing himself to was not notified of his court appearance.

Wilmington Police Officer Crystal Willamson says they wouldn't have been able to track him down if he hadn't come back to the store a second time.  Garner resigned from his job earlier this week. His next court appearance is set for May 11.
