Public Workshop on Cape Fear Skyway

APRIL 10, 2006 -- A local group is trying to drum up support for a new toll bridge in Wilmington even as the cost of the project continues to climb.

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is in charge of the Cape Fear Skyway project and authority members are in the midst of several meetings in the Wilmington area.

The skyway would connect Independence Boulevard to the U.S. 17 Bypass in Brunswick County by way of the Cape Fear River. The project could cost as much as $885-million.

The next public workshop on the toll bridge is Tuesday, April 11 at 4:30 at Belville Elementary School in Leland.
