Fire Officials Warn Against Spreading Fires in Dry Months

APRIL 8, 2006 -- The dry and windy weather in our area has caused many small fires in our region.

For some of us, spring is the time for burning off trash. But windy conditions make spring burning a bad idea.

"There is no burning within the city limits, but if you have to, use caution. With wind conditions like this, it is not a good time," said Cpt Sherod Goss with the Wilmington Fire Department.

Other factors can also cause a bad flame to sprout. Brush fires are caused by cigarettes, thunderstorms, car mufflers, exhaust, and other various things.

Goss says the best way to get rid of your trash is to call the yard debris removal service in the city. Your choice may keep your own properties from burning to the ground.
