APRIL 6, 2006 -- It has hosted proms and parties as well as business and trade shows. Now, the future of events at the Coast Line Convention Center is in doubt.
The convention center's management group will not run the facility after April 30. The group cites budget constraints as their main reason to close operations. The Coastline Inn will take over managing the building but the status of any events after April is still unsure.
The Cape Fear Convention and Visitors Bureau says it's starting to refer meeting planners to other sites with the construction of the new convention center still months away.
The management group says it's a bittersweet time as they look back on the memories the building holds. The last event scheduled in the convention center will be the New Hanover High School prom.
