Teen Summit 2006 Helps Troubled Teens

APRIL 1, 2006 -- Community leaders say recent violence between young people in Wilmington is the reason for Teen Summit 2006.

Nearly 200 teens gathered at the Community Boys and Girls Club in Wilmington for the city's first Teen Summit.

The event was sponsored by 97.3, Urban Productions, The Boys and Girls Club and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Special guests included radio hosts Rudy Rush and Dede McGuire from the nationally syndicated Doug Banks Morning Show.

They talked to the kids about sex, drugs, education and life goals. Organizers say all these kids needed was someone to talk to.

This year's event was so successful, organizers say they'd love to do it again next year.
