Maness' Confession Heard in Day 5 of Murder Trial

MARCH 27, 2006 -- For the first time since the Darrell Maness murder trial began, jurors heard Maness' taped confession to police that he did in fact shoot and kill Mitch Prince as the officer begged for his life.

During the three hour confession on Monday, Maness admitted to shooting Prince at least twice, and said Prince did beg for his life. He said he blacked out when he shot Prince and doesn't know why he did it.

In his confession, Maness says he didn't want to end up like his father who shot and killed a police officer close to twenty years ago.

Prince's autopsy will be presented in court on Tuesday. Two more witnesses are also expected to testify.
