MARCH 25, 2006 -- A Wilmington man threatened to take his life on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, creating tense moments for rescue crews. Now that man is in the hands of professional care.
Police say Leslie White, 38, climbed the bridge around 11:00 Friday night. They say White was complaining of family problems and had been drinking.
It took two and a half hours for police and rescue crews to convince White to come off the bridge. During that time, White had removed his shirt and shoes.
Police say those considering the deadly jump should know they can get help. White was sent to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
