MARCH 23, 2006 -- A Wilmington man is upset over a noise violation citation he received from the Wilmington Police Department. Dan Bowman is the unlucky recipient of a hefty ticket under a new noise ordinance.
He received the fine last week at 2:00 in the afternoon. Bowman says he was working on his lawnmower outside while listening to a basketball game on his truck radio. Neighbors called the police and now Bowman owes $250.
Bowman says the radio was off when police arrived and he thinks it is unfair.
"I think they should change that. I think they should have some type of system where the police officer comes out, and gives their own discrepancy on the case, which I've seen in the past before, or have some type of decibel reading," says Bowman.
Bowman admits police officers have come to his house more than 20 times, but they never gave him a ticket.
