Local Church Opens Thrift Shop to Help Homeless Women

MARCH 11, 2006 -- A local church is opening its doors to fashion and good will.

Wilmington's Union Missionary Baptist Church is welcoming the public into its new Samaritan Shop Thrift and Resource Center.

The grand opening on North Fourth Street gave shoppers the chance to buy gently used clothing, house wares and accessories. Proceeds from the center go to the church's Emergency Shelter Program which benefits homeless women.

Organizers tell us the idea for the store came from hurricane victims the church has helped.

The Samaritan Shop is still in need of volunteers. For more information on how to help or donate, call 763-3541.
