MARCH 4, 2006 -- Historians, archaeologists and property contractors are preserving the history of the Port City and making history.
A time capsule was buried on a lot on Church Street in downtown Wilmington Saturday.
The Plantation Corporation was responsible for digging up the lot where a new home will go. An archaeological evaluation was done to preserve artifacts found under the old home. Some of the items dated back to the 1700s.
However, images of the present went inside the time capsule. A copy of The Star News went inside, along with pamphlets of Wilmington attractions.
The buried capsule will be unveiled in 25 years by the county library. Those who were there as the capsule went underground were able to add a personal touch with letters and their own artifacts.
