Viewer Responses: Drive Right, Pass Left
Duh!!!! Pretty basic stuff. This is a real problem everywhere.
To my knowledge there is still a traffic law on the books in
Education, enforcement and compliance could surely help alleviate the problem not only here but on every highway.
Thank you for the opportunity to express my thoughts on this issue.
Thanks for the reminder. If folks would just use a few simple guidelines w/ driving, traffic would be safer and flow better.
I THINK THE SUGGESTION IS FINE, BUT IT IS JUST COMMON SENSE. LET ME SHARE SOME INSIGHT WITH YOU ON HOW PEOPLE GO ABOUT DRIVING HERE IN WILMINGTON- 1.WHEN YOU ARE AT A RED LIGHT, REMEMBER THE ONLY ONE WHO REALLY HAS TO GET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN IS THE PERSON IN THE FRONT CAR (WHO IS EITHER TALKING ON THE PHONE OR LOOKING FOR SOMETHING IN THE BACK SEAT).
2.FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO DON' T WORK EVERY DAY,THEY NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY GET OUT AND DO ALL THEIR ERRANDS FOR THE DAY AT MORNING, MIDDAY, AND EVENING RUSH HOURS AS THIS WILL HELP RELIEVE TRAFFIC CONGESTION.
3.WHEN YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR HOUSE TO GO SOMEWHERE-MAKE SURE YOU PLAN YOUR DRIVING ROUTE MAKING ALL LEFT HAND TURNS, ACROSS TRAFFIC, AND TRY TO AVOID TRAFFIC SIGNALS AS THESE ARE A WASTE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS.
4.WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND THERE IS AN 18 WHEELER OR SCHOOL BUS STOPPED AT THE FRONT OF THE LINE MAKE SURE YOU GET INTO THE OPEN LANE AND WATCH YOUR REARVIEW MIRROR TO SEE ALL THE OTHER TRAFFIC FOLLOW YOUR LEAD TO GET "AHEAD" OF THE "SLOWER" BUS OR TRUCK. THEN WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN REMEMBER YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS TO GET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, SO JUST POKE ALONG AND LET THE BUS OR TRUCK TAKE OFF IN THE LEAD. THIS WILL ENSURE NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE GET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION.
5.WHATEVER YOU DO-DO NOT USE THAT LITTLE HANDLE, USUALLY ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, TO LET OTHER DRIVERS KNOW YOUR INTENTIONS-IT' S BETTER TO KEEP THEM GUESSING.
6.ALWAYS LET SOMEONE TURNING LEFT ONTO
AGAIN THIS IS JUST MY OBSERVATION! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING,
It seems that mostly younger drivers (40 and under) in and around
When the discussion comes up about "running red lights" (and stop signs, about the same), people are not shy about saying, "yes, I ran a red light." I have heard talk of this on local talk radio. In particular, they have discussed the "red light cameras," saying they have received a ticket by mail indicating they ran the red light. And, most act as if, "so what, like everybody does it." Of course, they have to pay the fine, which they don't seem to mind.
What I don't understand is: Why would anyone intentionally run a red light or stop sign? Obviously they do not understand that it can kill you (the driver) and/or other people. That is stupid!!!! By the way, I have heard a local talk show host (radio - early, early morning) say he has received several $50.00 red light camera tickets. ????
And speaking of the red light cameras, AAA has just done a study which shows there has been no significant decline in the number of red-light-runners with the use of the cameras. The cameras are only keeping the camera owners rich with a small part going local.
Thank you so much for your commentary on people driving slow in the left lane! You have NO IDEA how many years I have been hoping someone would address this issue. Now if you could possibly have a daily reminder on the morning, afternoon and evening news EVERYDAY and also have the radio stations join in with this friendly reminder to move to the right lane we might actually begin to see a difference.
I would also like to point out, if people would GO when the light turns green, traffic would significantly decrease in a shorter period of time because more of us would be able to get through the light. The people in this town are notorious for leaving anywhere from 5 up to 10 car lengths in front of them when going through a green light. If they would only leave the sufficient one to 1.5 car lengths in front of them when moving through a green light, more cars would get through the light and get to where they are going sooner and off our small amount of roads sooner.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

I think your recommendation to drive right, pass left is good.
But, I think there are other things that can be done.
The most important thing that is not being done is enforcing the laws.
We see speeding, passing on the right, passing in the center turn lane, passing on the right, tail gating, reckless driving, not using turn signals…………we see everything except police. I believe that if we enough police presence and law enforcement then people will be forced to drive safer.
I was in
That was the best topic I have heard lately. I just had to write. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long while. It seems to me noone around here took Drivers Ed. Seldom does one use signals, the passing lane is taken by the phone talkers and Sunday drivers. To say nothing of pulling out in front of another....and crossing lanes. Scary, you bet.
