Officers Set Up DWI Checkpoint in Wilmington

FEBRUARY 19, 2006 -- Several unsuspecting drivers were stopped by police officers in New Hanover County Saturday night. Officers set up a checkpoint looking for drunk drivers.

The checkpoint was at the intersection of Carolina Beach Road and Echo Farms. Officers stopped every vehicle and in a four hour period.

Sixty violations were discovered during that time. Three underage drinkers were charged and six people over 21 were caught drinking and driving. Two people were found with marijuana. The others were cited for seatbelt and insurance violations.
