Ten People Killed in Marine Helicopter Crashes

FEBRUARY 20, 2006 -- The Pentagon has released more information about the ten Marines and Air Force members who were killed in the crash of two helicopters off the African coast. The Marines were members of a squadron that's part of the Second Marine Aircraft Wing based at the New River Air Station near Jacksonville.

Three of the Marines were from Pennsylvania. The others came individually from Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida and New York. The two Air Force crew members were from separate units in Washington and Virginia. One was a woman from Ohio and the other was a man from Puerto Rico. Two other crew members survived the crash.

Authorities are still trying to figure out why the aircraft went down on a training mission.
