City Officials Warn Residents After Sewage Leak

FEBRUARY 17, 2006 -- A punctured sewer pipe in Wilmington has been patched. However, city officials are still telling people to stay away from the water near Burnt Mill Creek.

City workers stopped the leak Thursday night at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Wrightsville Avenue.

The water from the leak was flowing into a storm drain which eventually flows into the creek.

The city has flushed the creek with fresh water, but city officials say people should still avoid contact with the water in the creek until more testing can be done.
