People Plunge Into Frigid Water for Charity

FEBRUARY 13, 2006 -- While most people were dodging rain drops on a cold, wet Saturday, a crowd of more than 100 people were splashing around in the waves.

Saturday morning, a large crowd ran down Wrightsville Beach to dive head first into the surf. It was all for the annual Polar Plunge and it was frigid. Not even a ray of sun came out to warm the numb swimmers.

The event raised money for the New Hanover Special Olympics.
