FEBRUARY 10, 2006 -- The pageantry of the Olympic Winter Games is under way in Torino, Italy with 2,500 athletes participating in the opening ceremonies. Some of those athletes are snow boarders. To find out more about the sport WECT news anchor Jim Hanchett tried it for himself.
At Sugar Mountain, Jim stepped onto a board for the first time, and it wasn't always pretty. The instructor had to tie his boots and outfit him in protective gear, but more than anything, Jackie O'Neil had to humor him.
"It's awesome how easy they make it look. As you can tell, it's not as easy as people think it is," says O'Neil.
A top-notch snowboarder, O'Neil demonstrated the right way to snowboard, and after a few mishaps, well maybe more than a few, Jim was finally able to stay on his feet.
