Former Camp Lejeune Residents Push for Water Study

FEBRUARY 9, 2006 -- A group of former Camp Lejeune residents led by a Wilmington woman are making slow progress proving the water they drank years ago was contaminated.

The group just returned from a meeting with federal officials in Atlanta. They wanted the government to launch a new study examining the effect of the water on Camp Lejeune residents. They believe hundreds of people paid with their health for drinking polluted water.

The government said no to the proposed study but did agree to look into mortality rates and cancers associated with Lejeune residents.

The group wants to push for more research and will meet next month to plan a strategy.
