FEBRUARY 3, 2006 -- New Hanover County is investigating an adult care home in Wilmington that appears to have serious problems.
Officials with the Department of Social Services says they're looking into complaints about the Meadows, a home for 57 adults on Jasmine Cove Way.
On Friday, investigators were told staff members are paying for food. Diabetic patients are being served cookies sweetened with sugar. There is a roach infestation and roaches have been found in several rooms. There is not enough food on hand to feed all of the residents through the weekend.
The county says none of the residents appear to be at risk. County officials are demanding immediate changes.
