Residents and Police React to Serial Rapist Case

FEBRUARY 2, 2006 -- The arrest of an accused serial rapist earlier in the week has some Wilmington residents asking police why they weren't warned a violent criminal was targeting women.

On Monday, police arrested and charged Shawn Keith Green with raping and sexually assaulting three women. The crimes took place off Carolina Beach Road near Greenfield Park.  Residents who frequent the park feel they should have known there was a rapist on the loose.

Police say there was a reason for their silence. Until recently, they say they didn't know the crimes were connected. Authorities say the victims were prostitutes and the general public was never in danger.
