JANUARY 26, 2006 -- An unusual piece of Wilmington's history is being added to the Cape Fear Museum's collection.
The Block family Monday donated a steam iron that was used in the pressing rooms of the Block's shirt factory. It used to be known as Southland Manufacturing Company. The iron was used in the 1930's.
The family business closed several years ago, but it once was one of the area's largest employers, second only to the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.
