JANUARY 12, 2006 -- Rumors that New Hanover County schools might cancel a religion class sent parents and ministers in the area swarming to this week's school board meeting. It turns out the classes are here to stay, so WECT sat in on a class to see what the fuss is all about.
Bible classes are electives. The county offers six courses at its four high schools. As students read and discuss the scriptures, they take an objective look at the book.
Instructor Gary Harris says his class helps students see the big historical picture and the students we spoke with seem to enjoy the course.
