DECEMBER 28, 2005 -- A man involved in a deadly accident in Wilmington is now facing charges.
Thom Callanan was killed Monday afternoon when police say 78-year-old John Miller pulled out in front of him on Eastwood Road. Miller is being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Callanan was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries. Now his loved ones are left with their memories of Callanan and the hope that people learn a lesson from the accident.
"He's a guy that wanted to surf everyday. As soon as the weather was beautiful, he wanted to get on his bike and go for a ride," friend Brian Kenney.
"I do hope people will be more careful. I know I will, and I'm a good driver anyway, but you just have to look," adds Callanan's girlfriend Nikki Jones.
Callanan's funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Friday at the Coble Ward and Smith Funeral Home on Oleander Drive.
