Area Churches Help Feed Wilmington Homeless

DECEMBER 24, 2005 -- It's a gift that keeps on giving. Local churches continued their weekly tradition of feeding the homeless in downtown Wilmington on Saturday.

They used Christmas Eve as a day to help those less fortunate, instead of taking the day off.

Members of the First Fruit Ministry fixed dinner plates and sang Christmas carols as they fed the homeless.

Gift bags filled with winter essentials like coats, gloves, hats and blankets were also given out.

Jimmie Suggs is the Associate Pastor of Scottshill Baptist Church. He ways the effort is not something reserved for the holidays, but an act of kindness they want to see all year.

About 125 homeless people receive a meal from the First Fruit Ministries each week.
