DECEMBER 7, 2005 -- Roger Mooney does not know why his ex-wife, Melissa Mooney, was murdered.
"I have no idea. I've never heard of him or anything."
But he welcomes word that authorities believe they've found her killer.
"I'm shocked and relieved that we can put this behind us," says Mooney.
In August of 1999, Melissa Mooney was strangled at her home in Castle Hayne. Authorities arrested Tyrone Delgado Tuesday in Louisiana.
Melissa Mooney worked for the FBI in Wilmington, but investigators haven't said whether that was a factor in her murder and they haven't revealed why they believe Delgado killed her.
Roger Mooney now lives in Nevada along with the couple's daughter. Samantha was just four years old when her mother was murdered.
"I'm going to continue raising our daughter and let her keep her mother's memory alive within Samantha. She was very sweet, just all around a really nice person. She would do anything in the world for a friend. She'd help people, a very good mother. She was my best friend," says Mooney.
Delgado is being charged with murder and burglary.
