DECEMBER 7, 2005 -- Southeastern North Carolina is full of kind and caring people, ready to help their neighbors at home or around the world when there is a need. That was evident when you responded with your monetary gifts following last December's tsunami in Asia. You also met the call in our own country, not only with money but with the basic necessities of life, following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. And now, as we enter the Christmas season, we ask you to dig deep once again, and contribute to our Holiday Smiles Toy Drive.
This time everything you donate will be used right here at home by the Salvation Army for families in New Hanover, Pender, Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus Counties. This is our sixth year and each year the need grows. This year is no exception. There are more than 80 locations where between now and December 11, you can donate a new toy for boys and girls up to age 13. All of the toys you donate will help brighten a child's Christmas.
Remember the reason for the season, and remember what we have all been taught, it is better to give than receive.
That's what we think, tell us what you think.
