DECEMBER 6, 2005 -- If you have neck pain or back pain that won't go away, there's a new treatment that offers help, and in some cases a cure.
It's non-surgical, minimally invasive and you go home the same day.
The procedure is called disc nucleopasty. Doctors first give the patient some medicine to insure comfort. Then they insert a needle into the herniated disk and place a catheter in the center. This takes away pressure on the surrounding nerves.
The procedure only lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. The patient goes home about an hour later with no pain.
Doctors say this procedure is usually covered by medical insurance.
