DECEMBER 6, 2005 -- New Hanover County authorities announced Tuesday they have arrested a man they say killed an FBI employee in Castle Hayne six years ago.

They arrested Tyrone Delgado Tuesday morning in Leesville, Louisiana. He's accused of breaking into Melissa Mooney's home in August of 1999 and killing her.

District Attorney Ben David won't release many of the details surrounding why Delgado was arrested now, because it might jeopardize the case.

"I want to make sure that this defendant gets a fair trial. And I want to make sure that Melissa Mooney gets her day in court and after a six year wait, she will," says David.

Mooney was a secretary and office manager for the local FBI office in Wilmington for about two years. She and Delgado both lived in Castle Hayne when she was killed. At the time, Mooney had a four-year-old daughter.

Mooney's autopsy shows she was strangled to death.

Authorities say they can't confirm it, but records show Delgado entered Mooney's home with the intent to commit a sexual offense.

Delgado is now charged with first degree murder and first degree burglary.
