Council Considers Ban on Feeding Homeless

NOVEMBER 23, 2005 -- At a time when feeding the homeless is on the minds of many citizens, Wilmington city officials are thinking about relocating where they can eat.

City council is considering creating an ordinance that would ban organizations from feeding the homeless on city streets. Downtown residents have complained the homeless leave trash on the streets and they panhandle pedestrians.

Council members say it's a quality of life issue for many residents, not an effort to stop feeding the homeless.
