Wilmington Officials React to Shocking Crime Statistics

NOVEMBER 22, 2005 -- Wilmington police are disputing a publication that rated Wilmington as the second most dangerous city in North Carolina.

The list was released Monday by Morgan Quinto Press, a company that publishes an annual reference book on crime rankings. The rankings are based on crime statistics provided to the FBI in six categories, including murder and rape.

Police Chief Ralph Evangelous says the rankings are not accurate. He said the study looks at crimes in surrounding counties, but fails to take the population of those counties into consideration.
