NOVEMBER 16, 2005 -- There were some tense moments for residents in northern New Hanover County as blue lights and officers on foot raced through their neighborhood.
Wilmington police officers, detectives, and highway patrol officers were trying to arrest a man they thought was a thief. They thought he was hiding in a house in the Wrightsboro area, but came up empty handed after sweeping the house.
A concerned resident thought they spotted a burglary and called 911. Officers say it was actually a relative of the homeowner, not a burglar. That man did have several warrants out for his arrest, and when he saw officers coming his way he ran.
Officials were able to detain a woman who was with him in hopes of learning his whereabouts. Officers are looking for a black man, about 6'1'' with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a red, white, and blue jersey and blue jeans.
If you have any information about the man, please contact the New Hanover County Sheriff's Department at 341-4200.
