New Convention Center Design Unveiled

NOVEMBER 15, 2005 -- The proposed convention center in Wilmington will have a new look, along with being significantly smaller than originally planned.

The new convention center design was unveiled at the council meeting Tuesday night.

Due to the present budget, the building will be smaller and will not have a roof covered with plants and grass. Members of the community had wanted the green roof, so the center would be more environmentally friendly.

A local developer is confident the new design will be approved. Members of the city council will vote December 6 on whether to approve the new design.
