Major Company Expands in Wilmington

OCTOBER 26, 2005 -- A major company is expanding in Wilmington.

Fortron Industries has invested $65 million to double the capacity of its Wilmington plant on Highway 421. The Wilmington plant held its own against sites in Asia and South America.

Company representatives say the port and a tech-savvy workforce played into the decision.

Fortron Industries manufactures polyphenylene sulfide, a heat resistant plastic. The expansion will be complete in 2007.
