OCTOBER 26, 2005 -- Some local students are filling the carts at the Lowes Foods store in Wilmington to help feed the hungry.
The 11th annual Friends Feeding Friends food drive is underway and students from Codington Elementary School helped kick off the event. They filled grocery carts with food donated by General Mills.
Last year, customers and Lowes Foods employees donated more than 600,000 pounds of food to feed the hungry in North Carolina. The goal this year is to raise 650,000 pounds of food.
The food drive runs through December 31 at all Lowes Foods stores. The food collected in New Hanover County will be distributed throughout the county.
If you would like to donate, you can place food in the blue barrels located at the entrance of any Lowes Foods store.
