The third annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Golf Tournament is on schedule to be one of the most celebrated events of the year. The tournament will be held November 12, 13, and 14 at Landfall.
Celebrities this year include Hall of Famers Joe Morgan, Eddie Murray, Bob Feller. Former Oakland A's pitcher Dave Stewart will be returning as well.
Margaret Weller-Stargell, wife of the late, former Pittsburgh Pirate, Willie Stargell, came up with the idea to establish the Willie Stargell Foundation and host an annual golf event in Wilmington . The monies raised provide financial support to local people dealing with kidney disease who otherwise could not afford the medications needed. Stargell, a member of National Baseball's Hall of Fame, passed away in April 2001 after a lengthy battle with kidney disease. It would be his desire for us to continue his legacy by helping others.
Tickets are now available to an auction dinner, Sunday, November 13 at the Country Club of Landfall. Auction items will include signed baseballs and bats from Hall of Fame members, and a famous homemade peach cobbler from former Pittsburgh Pirate Dock Ellis. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the celebrities.
