Floodwaters Continue to Cause Problems

OCTOBER 11, 2005 -- There is more flooding in Pender County as the rain swollen Cape Fear River crests. Officials say conditions won't improve until Friday or Saturday.

Highway 53, between Burgaw and Maple Hill, has some of the worst flooding in Pender County. Only big trucks attempted to pass through the 11 inches of water Tuesday.

The National Weather Service estimates the water level on Highway 53 and nearby roads will continue to rise until Friday.

In the meantime, emergency workers say drivers shouldn't try to go around the road blocks.

Several homes and roadways in Brunswick County are also dealing with flood repercussions.
