SEPTEMBER 28, 2005 -- Five people who generously give their time to make people's lives in Wilmington better received a well-deserved thank you Wednesday afternoon.
They were honored with New Hanover County Volunteer of the Year awards.
Three of this year's recipients volunteer with Hospice Care. One of the honorees works with the Boys and Girls Club. The fifth volunteer works with First in Families, making sure families of children with disabilities get the help and support they need.
While we always see the best of people when tragedies like Katrina strike, these people make Wilmington a better place year round.
The honorees were all nominated by non-family members. Most were very surprised by the honor.
