SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) - The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority announced Sunday morning, Sept. 16 that it was running critically low on fuel to maintain drinking water and other water services.
The New Hanover Emergency Operations Center has identified a source of fuel for CFPUA and is working to supply equipment and generators quickly.
There is no immediate threat to water service disruption. Officials believe this is a reliable supply that should last through the duration of the recovery process.
The low supply could have forced the utility to consider cutting off water within 48 hours, but New Hanover County Board of Comissioners Chair Woody White announced an hour later that the utility found the necessary fuel supply.
As flood waters continue to rise, Wilmington is virtually cut off from the rest of the state.
