A note from Duke Energy states that high winds and flooding from Hurricane Florence will impede the pace of outage restoration efforts. Work will begin when conditions safely allow, the notice stated.

N.C. Emergency Management tweeted around 6 a.m. that more than 321,600 people across the North Carolina coast are without power. The counties most affected are New Hanover, Pender, Carteret, Craven and Onslow.
