BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An analysis of water samples collected Thursday show slightly elevated levels of iron and manganese in portions of Brunswick County Public Utilities distribution system according to  a press release from the utility company.

The water is still safe to drink and meets all the drinking water standards, however, you may see a slight variation in the color of your water. It may appear to be a slight yellow or brown color.

NC DEQ officials say the cause of this is due to increased iron and manganese in the raw water of the treatment plant or elevated water temperatures and increased water demands in the distribution system.

Brunswick County Public Utilities day they have distribution crews out flushing the water system pipes as they are made aware of the issues in a particular area.

They advise you to not wash white linens if you have discolored water in your tap.
