WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A boost for the effort to get an all-girls hockey program on the ice in Wilmington.

The Carolina Amateur Hockey Association gave a $1,500 grant to help jump start the program.

We first reported in March about an effort by two dads and former women's hockey player Sidney Hinson to create an all-girls team.

The dads, Paul Hockaday and Patrick Lydon, both have daughters on the Ice Hawks team.

Hockaday said they are working with the Wilmington Ice House on dates for an event to introduce girls to the game.

He also said the organizers are looking for community support to help the plan skate forward.
