RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) - Wake County officials say a toddler boy drowned in a pool late Saturday morning.

The incident was reported around 11:50 a.m. in the 300 block of Martindale Drive, according to a news release from the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

The release said the parents of the victim were babysitting at the home and were getting ready for a trip to a nearby lake with their children.

"The mother of the child observed the door to the pool open and then saw her child (2-years-old) floating in the pool," the news release said.

The child was rushed to WakeMed where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The home is located north of Raleigh off Six Forks Road.

Deputies said an investigation was underway.
