BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WECT) - It's not every day you see a shark and it's certainly not every day you see a shark just feet from the shore.
But one man experienced the rare encounter Saturday on Bald Head Island.
Derek Wragge submitted a video of the shark he caught on camera to the WECT newsroom.
Wragge said he was swimming in the water just minutes before he spotted the shark and captured it on Snapchat.
"It's only ankle deep as you can see," Wragge said.
The shark appears to be a few feet long.
Wragge said he's been to most beaches in Southeastern NC including "Wrightsville Beach, Carolina, and everywhere in between." He said he has always heard about shark sightings at those beaches but had never seen anything like it himself.
"Tell everyone to look for fins," Wragge said. "For real. It's the only way to spot them. And be safe!"
