COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A Whiteville man is accused of stealing a gun and robbing a man while test driving a car in March.

Jacques Ali Vereen, 24, was arrested Friday and has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and larceny of a firearm.

He was booked under a $40,000 secured bond.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff's Office, the owner of a car lot was on a test drive with Vereen when Vereen pulled the victim's gun from between the seats and pointed it at him.

Officials say that Vereen took $300 from the victim before fleeing the scene with the gun.

Vereen served prison time after being convicted in connection to a double murder of two half-brothers in Tabor City in 2010. He spent approximately 17 months in prison after being convicted of accessory after the fact to murder in the shooting deaths of Lee Otis Vereen and Jerome Williams.
