Rodeo of cowboys and cowgirls will help Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) - Embrace your inner cowboy or cowgirl at an event that will help the Boys and Girls Homes (B&GH) of North Carolina.

The facility provides services for children and youth who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or other family issues.

For the first time in several years, the facility will host a professional rodeo at the B&GH Farm and Exhibition Center on Bill Thompson Lane.

The 2018 State Farm Rodeo is at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 and 18.

State Farm agents David Ward and Mary Williamson are sponsoring the event.

Because it is a Southern Rodeo Association sanctioned, it includes top riders participating in bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, breakaway roping and bareback riding.

Tickets are $12 for each night and children 6 and under are admitted for free.

All proceeds benefit the children of B&GH.

Since 1954, the facility has helped 7,500 children.
